Positions available include lead kayak tour guides, beach staff (includes assistant tour guides, beach rental work), office/reservation assistant, and sailing instructors! Lead guide and Delivery Drivers must be at least 21 years old.
All Coastal Kayak staff undergo extensive training. Those interested in becoming lead guides or instructors will be trained by an American Canoe Association Instructor Trainer!

Office/Reservation Assistant
Description:
This position requires excellent customer service and phone skills and good communication skills. Applicant must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be a quick learner. She/he must learn about everything we offer, be able to explain it to customers, help customers determine their best options, and handle reservations. Applicant must be able to be on her/his feet for the entire shift.
All Coastal Kayak team members must know the basics of kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing. We provide the equivalent of a full day of classes/training in these fun activities. You won’t be paid during this training, but you won’t be charged for the lessons.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Starting* pay is $13.25 – $14.50 per hour depending on experience. (*We give raises once employees complete training and demonstrate skills such as being a hard-worker, self-starter, reliable, etc.)
Responsibilities Include:
- In charge of release of liability forms
- Handling money and credit cards
- Collect deposits and damage fees if needed
- Answer the phones
- Take tour reservations
- Explain and enforce cancellation policies
- Grasp complex scheduling options
- Office and merchandise restocking, organizing, and upkeep
Beach Staff
Description:
This position is a combination of beach work and office work, and may possibly include assisting with guided kayak tours depending on the desire of applicant to learn routes, nature, etc. This is a physically demanding job. Applicants must be able to lift heavy kayaks, sailboats, equipment, etc. Applicants must be able to walk in sand, swim, and work outdoors in very hot and humid conditions.
All Coastal Kayak team members must know the basics of kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing. We provide the equivalent of a full day of classes/training in these fun activities. You won’t be paid during this training, but you won’t be charged for the lessons.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Starting* pay $13.25 – $14.50 per hour + tips, depending on experience. (*We give raises once employees complete training and demonstrate skills such as being a hard-worker, self-starter, reliable, etc. Personal time spent improving kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing skills is a big factor in pay increases.)
Beach Work:
- Give basic paddling and sailing instructions
- Give boundaries and routes
- Go over safety instructions and weather concerns
- Help customers get fitted in their kayaks and SUPs
- Assist customers in getting in and out of the boats
- Perform rescues
- Load kayak and SUP trailer for tours
- Rig sailboats and haul to water
- Drag kayaks and SUPs in and out of storage rack
- Clean and maintain kayaks, PFDs, and other equipment
- Maintain a tidy work environment
Assistant Kayak & SUP Tour Guide:
- Help load and unload kayak trailer
- Help customers get fitted in their kayaks
- Assist customers in getting into and out of the water
- Offer basic paddling tips to enhance customer’s enjoyment

- Must be able to assist lead guide with rescues
- Must enjoy talking with customers to ensure positive experience

Beach Staff Team Leader – This position is filled
Description:
Perform the above beach staff tasks with some managerial responsibilities including overseeing other beach staff employees, making sure basic maintenance/upkeep tasks are completed, etc.
Requirements:
Beach Staff Team Leader must have prior experience in the water sports we offer or be very enthusiastic to learn and be willing to put in some personal time to become comfortable kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing. Candidate must be available to work Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July week/weekend, and Labor Day weekend and must be available during the week through at least Aug. 23, 2024.
Starting pay; $15-$20/hour, depending on experience.
Office Staff Team Leader
Description:
Perform the above listed office tasks with some managerial responsibilities including scheduling, inventory, basic maintenance tasks, etc.
Requirements:
Office Staff Team Leader must have prior customer service experience in a water sport business or equivalent or be very enthusiastic to learn about what we offer and be willing to put in some personal time becoming comfortable with our offerings. Candidate must be available to work Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July week/weekend, and Labor Day weekend and must be available during the week through at least Aug. 23, 2024.
Starting pay; $15-$20/hour, depending on experience.
Lead Kayak Tour Guide
Description:
Lead groups of two to eighteen people on nature tours lasting from 2 hours to full day. This is a physically demanding job. Applicants must be able to lift heavy kayaks, walk in sand, swim, and work outdoors in very hot and humid conditions.
Responsibilities include:
- Determining tour routes based on tide, wind, and weather conditions
- Handling emergency situations if they arise
- Being able to control groups of varying abilities and ages
- Pointing out wildlife and educating participants about wildlife habits and ecology
- Knowing the tour routes (this will require some personal time to learn)
- Helping customers get fitted in their kayaks and get into and out of the water
- Loading and unloading kayak trailer
- Cleaning out kayaks and van after tours
- Basic maintenance on PFDs, trailer, etc
Lead Guides must be at least 21 years old AND must have a clean driving record.
We require either ACA or BCU instructor certification or the ACA Trip Leader Assessment, and knowledge of nature and wildlife or the willingness to learn. We offer certification courses if candidate is not yet certified.
Lead guides must also pass a skills test administered by C.K. covering subjects on nature, tour routes, group safety, passenger van driving, trailer backing, loading and tying procedures, emergency situations, etc.
Becoming a lead guide for Coastal Kayak requires a true desire to learn about kayaking, routes, and nature. It will require a commitment of personal time and effort that many times will not be monetarily compensated. We provide the training but becoming a lead guide will take practice and study. Our season is short so the candidate will have a set amount of time to learn the required knowledge and will be tested on it. If the results are not satisfactory the employee will be able to be an assistant tour guide but not a lead guide.
Lead Guides are required to sign a non-compete agreement!
Pay:
Pay depends on experience, certifications etc. We pay per tour but starting pay for first-time guides averages $14/hour + tips once training is completed.
Sailing Instructor
Description:
Give basic sailing instruction to beginners. The majority of lessons are given on our Hobie Wave Catamarans. Instructors will be trained as to what we require to be covered in the lessons. We require solid knowledge of basic sailing and a good teaching disposition. This position will require a commitment of personal time and study to become comfortable with the equipment and curriculum.
Must be at least 18 years old.

Kayak/Paddleboard Delivery Driver
Description:
- Prepare the equipment being delivered by making sure the kayaks/boards are clean and all parts are functioning properly.
- Load kayaks/boards in vehicle and tie down.
- Assist customers filling out paperwork and explain rental agreement
- Give paddling and route instructions.
- Assist customers in and out of the equipment.
- Basic cleaning/maintenance on delivery vehicle.
This is a physically demanding job. Applicants must be able to lift heavy kayaks, walk in sand, swim, and work outdoors in very hot and humid conditions.
As a delivery driver only, this position is very part time. A flexible schedule is appreciated as many times deliveries come in at the last minute. We prefer to pair it with either a beach staff or office staff position.
Must be at least 21 years old and have a clean driving record.
